Itinerary

Drive to Machame Gate for registration.Trek through lush rainforest (11km, 5-7 hours).Overnight at Machame Camp.
Trek through moorlands and stunning views of Shira Plateau (5km, 4-6 hours).Overnight at Shira Camp.
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (10km, 6-8 hours).Trek follows the climb high, sleep low principle.Overnight at Barranco Camp.
Climb the Barranco Wall, an exciting non-technical scramble.Short but scenic hike (5km, 4-5 hours).Overnight at Karanga Camp.

FAQ
The Machame Route is considered a moderately difficult trek. It is more challenging than Marangu but offers better acclimatization, increasing summit success rates.
The trek takes 6 or 7 days, with the 7-day itinerary recommended for better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate.
Unlike Marangu, the Machame Route uses tents instead of huts. You will camp in high-quality mountain tents provided by Lemosho Tours.
No technical skills are needed, but good physical fitness and endurance are essential for a successful summit.
